Superintendent of Education Laura Callaghan has chaired the first meeting of the North Elementary School Transition Committee. Members include students, parents, staff and the principals of St. Agnes, Our Lady of Fatima and St. Vincent Catholic Schools, along with parish representatives.
The scripture verse “For we are all one in Christ” (Galatians 3:28) provides the guiding principle for this committee. Its work is to bring our three school communities together as one. Several terrific ideas were presented, including ‘coming together events’ that will be hosted at each of the three schools through the next school year, planning an open house and Mass to celebrate the new school and looking for ways to keep old traditions and begin new ones.
One of the first tasks of the committee will be to select a new name, mascot and school team colours. These committee recommendations will be brought to the Board of Trustees for approval sometime in the 2018-2019 school year.
The real work of the committee will begin with the next meeting, which is planned for the fall.
