On October 2nd, members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) announced that they would begin a full withdrawal of services (strike action) in Ontario schools beginning on Monday, October 7, 2019 unless there is progress at the central bargaining table.
St. Clair Catholic is currently assessing the impact of this full strike action on school operations. In our schools, CUPE represents secretaries, custodians, early childhood educators, educational assistants, and library and computer technicians.
St. Clair Catholic will provide an update directly to families, staff and students, as more information becomes available.
We appreciate that there may be significant impacts on your family. Families are encouraged to begin to explore alternate child care arrangements for next week, in the event strike action results in school closures.
In the meantime, St. Clair Catholic is hopeful that the trustees’ associations, the Ontario government and CUPE will be able to reach a new collective agreement and that full strike action will be avoided.
