Good morning LANCERS! This week, we’re celebrating Canada’s multicultural heritage while busting some common myths about immigration and refugees Let’s start with Myth #1: Newcomers don’t need help. The truth is, many immigrants face real challenges when they arrive — including isolation, employment barriers, and finding housing. Even though newcomers are often healthy when they arrive — partly because they must pass a medical exam — their health can decline due to stress and limited access to services. One inspiring example of a newcomer who overcame barriers is Michaëlle Jean. Born in Haiti, she came to Canada as a refugee. Through hard work and dedication, she became a journalist, a community leader, and eventually Canada’s 27th Governor General — the first Black person and third woman to ever hold that office. Her story is a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience immigrants bring to our country. Stay tuned all week as we highlight more stories and facts that celebrate diversity and challenge stereotypes!

Did you hear about the summer clothing swap? It's a new initiative at UCC that respects the environment and gets YOU new summer clothes! Bring in those summer clothes that you no longer wear or no longer fit you - shirts, skirts, dresses, and shorts - just keep it appropriate. We'll collect them starting this Wednesday in your period 1 class. Then, next week you can get a new-to-you item just in time for summer break! We are also collecting uniform items that you have grown out of to donate to the Rebound room.
