Yesterday you likely heard on the radio that the Ontario Government’s restriction on the use of cellphones at school came into effect. To help ensure students can focus on learning, the Provincial Code of Conduct has been updated to address the use of cellphones and other personal mobile devices during instructional time. These cell phone restrictions set out clear provincial standards for behaviour for schools including school staff, parents and visitors. This is in order to prevent distractions and maximize learning time. Access may be granted for educational, health or medical purposes, as directed by the teacher. You might be curious what this means for you…all personal mobile devices that can be used to communicate or access the Internet are restricted during instructional time in your classrooms. Off and away is the expectation! Non compliance to “follow off and away” will result in a progressive level of discipline.
