Before and After Child Care / Extended Day Programs

BEFORE AND AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS are provided for children four to twelve years of age who require care, with more opportunities to learn and grow.

Our programs are operated by third-party licensed child care providers, offering a seamless day to the children enrolled. Registered early childhood educators are responsible for planning a play-based program with a mix of exploration, guided and independent activities including quiet times and outdoor play. If there are more than 15 children enrolled in a before- and after-school program, a second adult will support the early childhood educator.

THE EXTENDED DAY PROGRAM is specifically developed for four and five-year old children enrolled in Kindergarten requiring before and after school care. This program is offered in schools where there is a significant need to separate from the before- and after -school program. This program will complement the learning of the regular school day in a full-day kindergarten classroom.

To date the SCCDSB has implemented before and after school programming in all our schools.

The waitlist will be monitored in partnership with local municipal service managers to determine if there is sufficient demand and viability to ensure the operation and / or expansion of programs.  Should a provider cease to operate, SCCDSB will ensure the availability of another child care provider.  In this situation, fees and times of operations may change.
