2015-2016 Coming To A Close

The final stretch of the 2015-2016 school year is quickly approaching.  Over the next few weeks there will be numerous activities wrapping up, events celebrated, and learning assessed.  UCC has had a full year of learning and excitement.  June reminds us all that summer is close at hand.

We as a school want to thank all graduates for sharing their time, talents and gifts with our school over the last four years.  We have an incredible group of seniors who will be missed.  Our graduates will kick off their last month of school with our annual Grad Day celebration on May 26th.  It will be a beautiful opportunity for our grade 12 students to gather as a community in prayer, reflection, speeches and lunch.  They will also have the chance to select their 2016 valedictorian.

Our athletic teams are wrapping up their seasons with numerous teams advancing to playoffs, regional finals and provincial finals.  Again, our gratitude to the athletes who dedicate themselves over and above the school day to represent us so well.  We are so proud of all that has been accomplished.  To the dedicated coaches, please know the impact you have had on so many.  None of the accomplishments we have made as a school would have been possible without your love for sport.  Thanks for sharing that passion with our students.

During the final weeks of classes our grade 9 students will participate in the grade 9 EQAO math assessment.  It is annual assessment to test the numeracy skills of our students.  Our staff and students have been focused on preparing for the assessment so we wish them the best of luck.  In addition, many classes will be wrapping up their academic units with projects, unit tests and experiential learning opportunities. Report cards are on the horizon so everyone is working to wrap up the curriculum expectations.

Early next month the District Learning Team visits UCC classes to engage in learning conversations.  We will have the chance to witness student learning in an attempt to explore how to better serve our students.

Finally, two events that have special meaning to UCC will be held in June.  Our year end mass and Walk of Life that honours everyone special whom we have lost over the year will be held on June 10th.  In addition, our graduation ceremony will be held on Tuesday, June 28th.  It will be our final farewell to our graduates and their families.  It promises to be an amazing night for all.

So as we move into the last weeks of the school year, I continue to look forward to all the great things that continue to happen here at UCC.

Lancer Loud!  Lancer Proud!
