Mid Terms Arrive

Excitement is evident in the halls of UCC as spring has arrived (at least the calendar says it has).  As we approach mid-terms and the half way point of the semester, everyone is looking ahead to all the good things on the horizon. We have just completed the OSSLT and I congratulate the work of all our grade 10 students and those who attempted the test a second time.  The literacy test is a high stakes assessment that has implications for graduation.  As a result, the tremendous efforts staff provided our students through literacy classes, tutoring, class visits and skills development was greatly appreciated.  It is extremely important to recall that this test is only a measure of literacy.  We need to recognize that all our students are great young people, with unique personalities, senses of humour, with athletic or artistic abilities, or incredible skills and talents that make our school and community a better place.  I applaud all of you for being YOU!

Classes are deep into the curriculum, planning experiential learning opportunities and exploring challenging tasks to put learning into practice.  Staff is engaged in professional learning conversations exploring how to better serve the students and develop the 21st century skills they need to possess.  Athletic teams have begun their seasons keeping our students engaged in rich extracurricular experiences.  Clubs and groups continue after school opportunities for students to find their niche here at UCC.  All in all, a very exciting time.

In early May we will celebrate Catholic Education Week where our school community can share a faith experience together while a simultaneous Eucharist is being celebrated by Bishop Fabro and Catholic school communities across the province.  It is a unique opportunity for us to celebrate our faith so freely.

Our Muskoka Woods leadership experience is just weeks away.  Student leaders are excited to put their training to the test.  An incredibly amazing experience is ready to unfold when 450 elementary & secondary students join forces.  We know the experience will change lives for the better.

I remind all Lancers and the families that support them, we have the power to make amazing positive changes in our lives and in the lives of those we meet.  Be the change you want to see in God’s world.

So as we move into the last few months of the school year, look forward to all the great things that continue to happen here at UCC.
