Liturgical Season Of Lent

In a few weeks, UCC will introduce the Liturgical Season of Lent with distribution of ashes on Ash Wednesday.  Throughout the forty days of Lent, we are reminded to prepare for the joy of Easter with acts of almsgiving, fasting and prayer.  Many opportunities for any of these acts can be witnessed on a regular basis at UCC.  We start each morning with prayer – enhancing our relationship with Jesus.  The school is in a collective effort to raise funds for Development and Peace in our We Lenten campaign (formerly Me 2 We).   As Easter quickly approaches, we will gather as a Catholic community to remind us of the journey Jesus took in our Stations of the Cross presentation.  Easter will be our chance to rediscover new life.  Renewed by our Lenten preparation, spring will remind us that Christ is Risen.

On the horizon are progress reports, a new season of athletics, numerous educational excursions that will provide rich experiential learning opportunities and the OSSLT for grade 10 students.  It is an exciting time of year as we move into the middle of the semester.  Midterm report cards won’t be far off.
I encourage all our UCC community to embrace this liturgical season to look inward first, to improve who we are to those around us.  We have the power to make amazing positive changes in our lives and in the lives of those we serve.

So as spring slowly arrives, we look forward to all the great things that continue to happen here at UCC.

Semester One Coming To A Close

It is the middle of January and it feels like mid March however, the calendar confirms the semester is ending.  Final exams will mark our culminating activity of the first semester.  Students will be busy studying, completing final projects and wrapping up their courses.  All their hard work for the past 5 months will be completed.  February 6th will mark the kick off of semester two.  New teachers, new curriculum and new learning opportunities!  It is a great chance to start fresh again.

One of the highlights of the semester turnover is the UCC Open House.  An invitation is extended to all who want to visit us at 7pm on Thursday, February 2nd   We invite any parent and their child to join us in our theatre to learn about the exciting opportunities that await your child when they attend UCC in the fall of 2016.  Our brief but informative presentation will share an overview of the school, expectations and what we have to offer your child.  We will follow that with guided tours by our staff to help you see first-hand the fabulous things UCC has to offer.  We are excited to share this with you and look forward to having you join in the evening of February 2nd.  Check out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwbBH5TyTTw  to get a glimpse.

So as January comes to a close we encourage you to look forward to all the goodness the new semester has to offer and the excitement the being part of UCC has to bring.

Mother Nature has been kind to us to date however UCC has contingency plans for bus cancellations during exams if things change. I ask you to review the procedures below and should you have any questions please contact the office for clarification.

The St. Clair Catholic District School Board and the Lambton Kent District School Board have developed the Following plan, which is to be followed in the event of disruptions to the examination schedule due to severe weather or fog.

  • In the event that inclement weather forces the cancellation of buses in any of Zones 5 through 8; exams at all Chatham-Kent secondary schools will be cancelled for the day and the exam schedule will be pushed back one day.

  • In the event that fog causes a disruption to transportation in any of Zones 5 through 8; exams at all Chatham-Kent secondary schools will be delayed for two hours.

Transportation in the event of fog

  • In the event of fog, buses for secondary students in the affected zone(s) will be operated at a two hour delay and exams will proceed with a two hour delayed start time. If conditions do not improve the delayed secondary routes will be cancelled and exams cancelled for the day. A decision will be made and posted by 7:30 a.m. if buses are to be operated.

  • All buses, elementary and secondary, will run at the end of the day, as normal.

Classes on the Last Day of the Semester

If buses are cancelled due to inclement weather on the last day of the semester, Thursday, January 26, 2017, exams will begin on Friday, January 27, 2017 as scheduled.  In the event of inclement weather, students and parents should listen to local radio stations for announcements regarding transportation and the exam schedule or visit www.schoolbusinfo.com
