(Chatham-Kent Health Unit). The services offered by the Public Health Nurse at UCC are to promote healthy living with the students, through
individual confidential counseling, classroom teaching and group facilitation. The nurse also acts as a resource person to students
and staff through consultation and by supplying information in the form of posters, pamphlets and other materials on health-related topics.
A request to see the nurse can be made through the Guidance Department Secretary (extension 4018).The nurse is in the school one
full day per week. Students requiring immunization updates will receive a consent form that will require a parent's signature
in early January of each year.
Ursuline College is proud of its beautiful, 510 seat
Theatre. Opened in 2002, the theatre is home to many high caliber Lancer productions. The theatre may be rented to not-for-profit and commercial
groups for a reasonable fee. For information about theatre contact Ms. Mary Jane Courie at Extension 4010.
The cafeteria staff are looking forward to serving UCC students and staff. Aramark Foods holds the food service contract
for the UCC cafeteria. They offer a large variety of foods between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. They will cater for small groups or class events
and are always open to suggestions for new food items.
To ensure that all our students safe transportation needs are met in the event of bus cancellation during
school hours, it is the expectation that the following procedures will be put in place. All bus students in grade 9 and 10 are required to
have confirmed direct parent contact (or direct adult contact) as to their transportation arrangement home. All bus
students in grade 11 and 12 are required to provide destination information prior to release from class.
Ursuline College recognizes that there is a need for transportation to the rural areas of our county
beyond the end of the normal school day due to the various extra curricular activities that students engage in. As a result, UCC
arranges a late bus pickup at 4:30 p.m. on many weeknights throughout the year (schedule available in September). The schedule is
determined at the beginning of the school year in consultation with coaches, instructors, staff and the bus carriers. The purpose
of this late bus pickup is to provide a centralized drop off location in our surrounding communities so that students can participate
in sports activities, arts functions, after school tutoring/assistance or to work with their peers on school related
assignments. Students are to sign up for late bus passes in the main office, in advance of
activities. Students without
a late pass will not be entitled to ride the late bus runs.
The role of the Student Support Service team is to assist students, parents and school staff in learning to deal with
a variety of issues including: self-esteem, bullying, school attendance, social skills, anxiety and depression, grief and loss, behavior,
personal and family issues. Referral to this service is initiated through the school principal, vice-principals or guidance staff.
School's social worker is also available to assist schools, students and families to develop effective solutions to issues. Social worker provides
support and advice to parents, as well as assisting with the referral process to various community
agencies. The child and youth
worker provides direct intervention with students. He works in the school assisting school staff in assessing behavior
and developing behavior plans that outline strategies to reinforce appropriate behavior and social skills. Confidentiality is maintained
in all matters.
UCC will distribute newsletters for students and parents in October, December,
February, April, and June. Hard copies of
these newsletters will be given to students; we ask that students give these to their parent/guardian
to keep them informed. The newsletter is also posted on the school web site news and events page.
From time to time, information may be sent home via the students for a variety of reasons. These include important
notices, report cards, and consent forms.
At UCC we have a telephone notification system called "Synrevoice" This system may call you to notify you of: a report of absence from school by your son/daughter/ward; important school information; a special event of importance to
all.
