Good Morning, Lancers! Today is the start of multiculturalism week at UCC. Each day we will be talking about a different continent which will allow us to tour the world in a school week. Starting off our trip at home did you know that Canada was the first country to adopt a multiculturalism policy, the most recent celebration was its 50th anniversary in 2021. Additionally, in the United States the fourth of July celebrates the independence of the U.S when the Declaration of Independence Act was passed through the Continental Congress in 1776. Now traveling to South America, Portuguese immigrants brought the “Carnival Rio de Janeiro '' to Brazil dating back to 1723 “Carnival Rio Janeiro '' is a Catholic celebration held 40 days before Easter as a religious holiday that has been adopted by secular societies. Also, there is a superstition in South America about eating 12 grapes on New year's eve to represent the upcoming 12 months. I hope you had an exciting trip, but remember to pack your bags because tomorrow we are traveling to Asia!

Make sure to stop by just outside the cafeteria this week to see the multiculturalism booth, learn more about the diversity of our school by checking out the cultural heritage map and scan the QR code for the United Alliance insta page. Hear some worldly music and chat with our members!

Lancer Vision will be back next week ON THURSDAY with a 30 min show to kick of the long PD Day weekend to catch up on all the amazing things that happened this week and will happen this coming week!

Students who have selected to take co-op next year please check your email for important information.

Just a reminder to grade 12 students, Lancer Award Applications are due this Wednesday, June 7.

The 16 members of the Ursuline College track team (a record) participated in the OFSAA West Regional meet in Cambridge on Friday June 2 and Saturday June 3.

CJ R led the team by winning the novice boys long jump, high jump and triple jump, (no other Ursuline athlete has ever accomplished this) qualifying him for OFSSA in all 3 events.

Emma N won both the novice girls shot put and discus qualifying her for OFSSA in both events.

Jeremy V won the senior boys shot put and was second in the discus and javelin, sending him to OFSSA in all 3.

Griffin K was 4th in the junior boys javelin making him our fourth OFSAA qualifier.

Other great performances were turned in by Tanika L finishing 6th in the senior girls 100m hurdles.

The Jr boys 4x100 team of DJ, Aidan S, Rohan A and Caleb R finished sixth one second off our school record.

The open boys 4x400 team of DJ, David B, Ethan V, and Gavin M placed 5th, missing OFSSA by one place but destroyed our 22 year old school record by 11 seconds.

Congratulations to our athletes and good luck to the four traveling to Ottawa later this week.

Cheer Team tryouts for next year's cheerleading team are going to be Sunday June 11th from 6-8:30 pm. There are posters near both entrances to the dance studio, scan the QR code on the posters to sign up for tryouts! Any questions can be directed to Mrs. Dunlop or Mrs. McCauley.
