St. Matthew Catholic School in Sarnia was the only elementary school to enter the annual CANstruction event at Lambton Mall, which is organized by the Lambton Chapter of the Professional Engineers of Ontario.

Through corporate donations, the school raised more than $800 to purchase the cans needed in order for the students to create their structure 'Sponge Bob Can Pants.'

"I want to thank our students and special thanks to teacher Danielle Karlsson for organizing this event," says Mark Renaud, Principal of St. Matthew Catholic School.  "This was a fantastic community building and wellness exercise!"

Last Saturday, several community groups participating in the event spent the day building their structures entirely out of canned foods.  This year's theme was 'cartoons.'  The structures will remain on display at Lambton Mall for the next two weeks.

All canned foods and fundraising proceeds from CANstruction are donated to the Inn of the Good Shepherd.
