OPS Summer Employment Opportunities

The Summer Employment Opportunities (SEO) Program provides up to 5,000 students with the opportunity to gain valuable work experience through supervised summer employment in the OPS. To be eligible to participate in the program, students must be currently enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary institution, be at least 15 years old, be living in Ontario during the summer and be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Positions for the summer of 2021 will be posted on February 25, 2021 with different closing dates between March 10 and June 1, 2021. The 2021 employment period for students is from May to September. To participate, students must apply online here.

As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve, the OPS will be monitoring what program adaptations may be necessary for the summer of 2021. We continue to remain flexible in our approach. To the extent possible, proposed changes will be communicated prior to the screening and hiring of students.

                                                    Youth Job Connection

If you are between the ages of 15 and 29 at the time of registration, you may be eligible to participate in this program.  This program offers PAID pre-employment services and workshops, followed by a PAID job placement.

Pre-employment services include:

  • 60-90 hours of paid training to prepare for the workplace
  • Mentorship, coaching and help with school and work transitions during and after the program ends
  • Support and funding for employers who offer paid job placements (lengths may vary)

To be eligible for Youth Job Connection, you must be:

  • Between the ages of 15 and 29 at the time of registration
  • A resident on Ontario
  • Eligible to work in Canada
  • Unemployed
  • Not participating in full-time training or education as defined by the institution

Please Note: Individuals between the ages of 15 and 18 must be legally excused from attending high school.

LEADS Employment Services is offering a Youth Leadership Development Program who works with clients who need varying levels of assistance developing skills and accessing volunteer and employment opportunities.  Youth can expect the following from participation in the program:  

  • Skills and confidence that will assist in obtaining employment in the future
  • Finish required high school service hours
  • Meet other young adults with similar hobbies and interests
  • Develop goals and plans for the future
  • Leave program with professional references /networks and resume
  • Leave program with optional training such as First Aid & CPR, Smart Serve, Safe Food Handling, etc.

LAMBTON COLLEGE JOB FAIR - Thursday, March 12 from 10:30-1:30

Local job seekers will have the opportunity to connect with more than 50 employers at an upcoming Career Fair taking place at Lambton College. 

The free event, happening at the College on Thursday, March 12 from 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. is being hosted by Lambton College Co-op & Career Services in partnership with Sarnia Lambton Economic Partnership and Sarnia Lambton Workforce Development Board Lambton. 

Organizers of the event say this is a great opportunity to for job seekers to meet with hiring managers from a variety of organizations including Lambton College, NOVA Chemicals, and Old Navy.
