2021/2022 Message
When the pandemic lockdowns began, we were given a list of things we could not do, which strongly impacted each community. However, instead of seeing a list as a social crisis, others saw an opportunity: to honour one another, by making signs or clapping on our balconies for frontline workers; to celebrate with one another, by watching virtual Mass and Liturgies; to care for one another, by delivering groceries to the elderly; and to engage with one another, by holding Zoom gatherings where we talk over food and drinks or play games.
St. Angela Merici, the founder of the Ursuline Sisters, instructed her sister companions to: “search for community, and struggle to attain it.” She also said “faith sustains community.”
We each belong to various communities, whether it be our family, circle of friends, school, sports team, or religious faith. Jesus saw the communities that existed during his time and came to unite them in one large community - under God. Just before his death, Jesus prayed:
The glory that you have given me I have given them, so that they may be one, as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become completely one, so that the world may know that you have sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. - John 17: 22-23
