This past Saturday (Dec 15) eleven (UCC) wrestlers battled hard with some good and bad outcomes. Two athletes suffered unfortunate injuries and are, most likely, out for the remainder of season. Ben Parent dislocated his elbow in his semi-final match and Marcus Jones fractured his wrist in his first bout. Zach Parent, Daniel Crummer, Hanna Srokosz, Maddison Segren & Ben wrestled in Kitchener against competitors from across Canada. They come home with some excellent wins and some heart break losses.
The other 6 wrestlers fought Sarnia-Lambton athletes in Petrolia at LCCVI. Darius Benoit-Pough and Owend Dodman both earned a Bronze. Vanessa (1/2 nelson ) Devolder was undefeated in 4 bouts, brings home a silver. “Focussed” Graci Srokosz brought it all to the mat and beat 4 of her 5 competitors to earn her Silver medal. Kayla Smith locked up another gold medal for herself from some exhausting fights. Way to go to the UCC wrestling squad!
The junior boys basketball team won their own tournament this weekend with a 27 point victory over the Chatham-Kent Hawks in the championship game. The team plays at CK tomorrow night at 5:30 in the last league game of 2018.

The Junior girls volleyball B team Played in a tournament this past weekend at the Chatham Christian School. The girls lost their first match which took them to the consolation round however they pulled out a series of strong wins against St. Pats which brought them to the Consolation Championship. They defeated the Panthers in a best two of three sets to win the Consolation Championship. All members of the team contributed to the wins however special mentions go to Sophie Horban for some serious blocking, Allyson stokes for a game taking final serve, Megan Bosma for her penetrating spikes, and Kate Haggerty and Sydney Sheppy for consistently strong serves.
The Boys hockey team returned to the York University Hockey Tournament last week. The team had a very strong record of 2 wins, 1 tie and 1 loss. Unfortunately it was not enough to make the finals. Overall the team played very well in all aspects of the game. Players of the games were Jacob Williams, Ayden Lucyk, Owen Lemieux and Daniel Fraliegh. Solid performances also goes out to Sam McKinley, Zach Vanboxtrel and Will McCracken. If you see the new and improved Riley Drummond give him a high five. UCC Boys hockey is set to return to action this week against LK on Wednesday at Memorial Arena starting at 2:30.
