This week let's continue to focus on the powerful message from Sam Demma: "It's time to empty your backpack of the thoughts and opinions of everyone else."
Think about that for a second. How often do we carry around worries about what others think, doubts planted by someone else's words, or expectations that aren't even our own? It's like carrying extra weight that slows us down and keeps us from truly being ourselves and pursuing what matters to us.
This week, let's take on the "Empty Your Backpack Daily Challenge"! Each day, we'll focus on letting go of one thing that's weighing us down. Here's your challenge for today:
Identify one negative thought or self-doubt that you've been carrying around. Acknowledge it, and then consciously decide to let it go for today. Write it down and then symbolically "crumple it up" and toss it away.
A reminder to all grade 12 students pursuing a post-secondary pathway to university, college or apprenticeship. Please make sure you check the grade 12 Guidance Group in EDSBY as many scholarship and bursary opportunities are being posted there and deadlines are approaching for many.
Midterm report cards were distributed to period 4 classes on Friday. If you were absent on Friday, your period 4 teacher will have your report card for you. If you have a spare or elearning class during period 4 you can pick up your report card in the guidance office.
Every year the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Women’s League gives a bursary of $500 to a grade 12 student who plans to continue their education in College or University. If you are a graduating student and you would like to be considered for this award, please pick up an application form in room 209 from Mme Culverwell.

The boys rugby team had their first game of the season yesterday. Although the opposing team came out on top, terrific trys were scored by Ben E., and John D., and tenacious tackles were made by Dean R., and others. Well done, lads!
The stripe team kicked off our league season in the backyard at UCC last night. Although the girls came up short, they fought with intensity, passion, and laid everything out on the field. Our first try of the game came in hot from Tara “Shoe-shoe” W. Audrey “pinky” D., and Robin “birdy” man had their first try’s of their rugby career last night as well. The teamwork and learning we witnessed last night was impeccable and we are so excited for all of the learning that is to come. The blues and stripes head up the 401 on Thursday to compete in their second tournament of the season in Guelph. Wish these athletes luck this week if you see them in the hallway. Let’s go Lancers!
Now that the polls are closed, we can share the Student Vote Results.
UCC reelected Dave Epp, the Conservative member with 50% of the vote. The Liberals came in second with 25%, the PPC with 9% and the NDP and Greens tied with 7% each. Dave Epp was reelected last night in the actual election.
When our votes were combined with Students from across Canada, they elected a Conservative Minority with 165 seats and a Liberal opposition with 145 seats. This is a difference to the actual election results. Prime Minister Carney and the Liberals have been reelected. They are still counting votes to decide if it is a majority or a minority, which is a reminder to all of the importance of every vote.
