Our Principal
Jeanne Girard, Principal

We are looking forward to another safe, happy and productive year at St. Joseph Catholic School. Our focus is to “Live Like Jesus” by following in His footsteps and developing a “Growth Mindset”.

Jesus said, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." (Matt.17:20)

Don’t underestimate the value of letting your child persevere. We are maintaining high expectations for all students through learning activities that offer challenge to students. Research shows that it is really important for children to take risks in order to learn.  When they work through tasks that challenge their thinking, synapses fire in their brain, connections are made and their brain grows.  This is how learning occurs. Encourage your child to try on their own first. Praise their efforts and willingness to stick it out and put forth their best effort.

Children and adults with a growth mindset know that intelligence and abilities are not fixed and can be developed. The brain is a muscle that can be exercised and strengthened through effort, facing and overcoming challenges, and learning from mistakes. This leads to a desire to learn, and a tendency to embrace new and difficult challenges, persist in the face of setbacks, recognize effort as the path to mastery, learn from criticism, and find lessons and inspiration in the success of others. As a result, they reach ever-higher levels of achievement and maintain a greater sense of free will. We are embracing a growth mindset at St. Joseph Catholic School! Mistakes are welcomed and expected, as we help our students deal with the myriad of challenges of school, including the highs and lows of growing up, making and keeping friends, learning how to work with different teaching styles and temperaments, facing academic challenges and figuring out how to self-challenge and go above-and-beyond when facing lessons or topics they may not find naturally challenging or particularly interesting. Through this process, we help each student develop self-confidence, resilience and grow in their faith so that they can keep going when things get tough.

Blessings,

Jeanne Girard

Privacy Advisory

Our families and staff enjoy opportunities to share some of their activities with parents and the school community through teams, clubs and special events. Many of these are ‘memory making’ for families and as such, photographs and videos are often taken.

We ask that families exercise their discretion when taking photographs or videos at school events and consider the privacy of other students who may also be present in those pictures. We would appreciate if families not upload images of students other than their own to the Internet (e.g. YouTube or Facebook). Your cooperation with this request is appreciated.
