February 3, 2020
Dear Parents/Guardians,
The Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA), which represents Catholic teachers in the province, has notified all school boards that its members will participate in a second legal one-day full withdrawal of services (full strike action) on Tuesday, February 4, 2020.
St. Clair Catholic is committed to the safety of all students and staff in our schools. Therefore, the Board will have no choice but to close all elementary and secondary schools to students on Tuesday, February 4, 2020.
You may also have heard or read media reports about job actions by other teachers’ federations and associations, which affect public school boards in Ontario. The only strike action that affects our Catholic schools is the Tuesday, February 4, 2020 full withdrawal of services by OECTA.
The Board regrets any disruption to student learning and inconvenience to families that these labour actions may cause; however we acknowledge and respect the fact that sanctions are part of the legal collective bargaining process. We continue to be hopeful that a collective agreement which is fair to all parties can be negotiated at the provincial bargaining table.
Please continue to visit the Board website at www.st-clair.net for further updates regarding labour relations.
Sincerely,
Deb Crawford
Director of Education
