BREAKFAST CLUB 

Student Nutrition at St. Patrick’s

(The Breakfast Club)

Dear Irish Families and Community Members,

On behalf of the organizers of the Breakfast Program, please accept our sincere thanks for your support of this year’s Breakfast Program Christmas Card fundraiser.  Your response has been tremendous, and the funds that we have already raised will go a long way to helping provide a healthy start each and every day for the students at St. Patrick’s.  Our fundraising campaign continues until December 19th, so even if you have not had a chance yet to support the program, there is still time.  Special thanks goes out to 3 St. Patrick’s Art students – Shianna Martin, Karly McCrea and Maddie McCarthy.  These students designed the Christmas cards that we are using this year.  The details from our original message about the Christmas Card fundraiser are included below for your convenience.

All students and parents are reminded that St. Patrick’s offers a COMPLETELY FREE & INCLUSIVE student nutrition program, five days a week, from 7:30 – 8:00 a.m. in the brand new Foods/Culinary Technology classroom (Room 108).  The “Breakfast Club” provides a healthy start to the day and encourages students to consider the importance of eating a healthy, balanced diet.   Each and every school morning we serve a variety of breakfast items including fresh fruit, yogurt and cheese, bagels, muffins and water or juice.  A special thanks goes out to Tim Horton’s in Corunna for their generous support.  The Breakfast Program is run by a large network of teacher volunteers.  The program is always looking for monetary donations [we currently average around 140 students per day]. If any parent or guardian would like to contribute or know about any possible sources of outside funding, please contact Mr. Coene at chad.coene@sccdsb.net

During this Christmas Season, the Breakfast Club is also running a special fundraising initiative.  For each donation that is made, parents/families will receive access to our very special St. Patrick’s Christmas Card that will read

“A donation has been made in your name this Christmas to the

St. Patrick’s Breakfast Program!

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year”.

There will be an additional description of the benefits of the program inside the card.  We are excited to add that this year’s series of cards has been designed by our own Grade 12 Art students.  The cards make great hostess gifts, stocking stuffers, teacher gifts, etc.  Donations can be made in any amount and you are welcome to pick up multiple Christmas cards for any donation. You can donate in increments of $10 using School Cash Online [see link below] or by cheque [any amount] made out to “St. Patrick’s CHS”. Charitable Tax Receipts for donations over $20.00 will be sent to you provided you print off your donation receipt with full name and mailing address and return to the main office by Dec. 19th.  After you donate, drop-in to pick up your cards or have your child pick them up for you.  Cards will be available from Mrs. L. Wagner in the Main Office.

PARKING LOT SAFETY 

Parking Lot Safety / Student drop off and Pick Up

As always, our paramount concerns when organizing our parking spaces, bus loading areas, and drop offs are surrounded around safety.  Please review the pieces below, in particular if you plan to be picking up and or dropping off your child.

  • Parking is available for staff, students and guests in North Lot, with entrance off of The Rapids Parkway. No parking passes are required.
  • No parking is allowed in the South Parking lot that is close to St. Francois Xavier. (limited spaces for staff only)
  • All school buses will unload in the “bus loading and unloading area” in front of the school (East Side of Building), which runs parallel to the Rapids Parkway.  We have identified the bus loading areas on our school website for your information, and also on asphalt outside school.  Only school buses, drop off of students in Special Education programs, those who need accessible parking and emergency vehicles may enter this area.  NO dropping off or picking up of students may be done in this area.
  • Students may be dropped off and picked up on school property by entering the parking lot through our entrance off the Rapids Parkway, North of the school, and following the directional arrows and lines.  Drop offs and pick-ups will be made outside the North West entrance to the school, (Entrance leading to the gym)  however; please note that this area is not a parking zone, but simply a drop off and pick up area.  Please follow the arrows and lines out of the parking lot, by exiting from the north entrance as well.  No school buses will be loading or unloading in this area which adds to safety for all.  We do ask that all drivers pay close attention to the safety of all walkers, as this will be a busy area at the beginning and end of the school day.  We appreciate your patience as we all become accustomed to our new surroundings, and please allow for additional time each day for pick-ups and drop offs.
  • Bike racks will be set up for students in our parking lot area, opposite the football field.  We do have security cameras in this area, however we strongly advise that all bikes be properly locked each day.

THE GREAT BIG CRUNCH 

5…4…3…2…1…CRUNCH!!!!   You guessed it – The GREAT BIG CRUNCH returns again on Thursday OCTOBER 23, 2014.  During Period 1 that day (around 9:15 a.m.) the entire St. Patrick’s School Community will simultaneously CRUNCH into delicious local apples.  The GBC tries to raise awareness around healthy eating and the availability of delicious, nutritious foods produced by our own local farming community.  Mr. Howson’s leadership class will help facilitate the event that day…stay tuned for more details
