Bullying Prevention Week

November 17-20 is Bullying Prevention Week.  Our theme this year at St. Patrick’s is “Words can hurt or heal.  What did yours do today?” and we will be challenging our students to think about the power their words carry.  We have a number of things happening this week including a special presentation on Wednesday. Motivational speaker, singer and songwriter, Sara Westbrook, will bring her UPower concert to all of our students. On Thursday, we will celebrate “Pink Day” within our school.  Students will be permitted to wear jeans if they wear pink or one of our Bullying Prevention T-shirts.  We call it “Pink Day” in honour of two senior high school students from Nova Scotia, David Shepherd and Travis Price, who saw that a Grade 9 student was being bullied for wearing a pink shirt to school and decided to do something about it.  The next day, they, along with all of their friends, wore pink shirts to school in order to support the boy who was being bullied.  We will have a contest for the most “Pinkified” homeroom and special activities at lunch, including a pink themed bake sale.  Students will also be asked to sign our 2014 banner as their pledge to help stop bullying.  There is still time to pick up one of our official 2014 Bullying Prevention T-shirts.  They are available in the school store for $15 and can be worn this Tuesday and every Tuesday as they are considered “Spirit Wear.”  So, St. Patrick’s, stand up, speak up, wear your pink and support Bullying Prevention Week!
