Protecting
Yourself Against Viruses |
Viruses take many forms, and these days should be considered the
greatest threat to your most important data. Make sure all computers
that store your data are protected. Most importantly though, your
virus software must be kept up-to-date. Some programs do this automatically,
but they may have not been set up, expired or stopped working altogether.
If you are unsure of your status, please call the HelpDesk.

SPAM and Winning! |
If
you have been receiving email for on-line prescriptions, car loans,
or more pornographic material, you are likely the victim of SPAM,
aka. Unsolicited Email (please see the email message below for more
about SPAM).
For those of you who may be receiving messages from Microsoft about
a patch, from anyone you don't know about a screensaver or link, or
anything that might say a Virus was Found and Deleted, you are likely
on the receiving end of someone else's infected computer. As we are
currently properly protected (if you are unsure about your virus protection,
please call), these kinds of email are usually harmless. Simply delete
them and move on.
Unfortunately there are very few affordable, efficient, and effective
methods of stopping these types of email without potentially jeopardizing
some REAL inbound email. We will continue to search out an adequate
solution, but until then the best solution is to know how to prevent
yourself from becoming a target. Please read the message below for
ways to prevent SPAM. You should also monitor the constant updating
of your virus protection. |
