O.Y.A.P.
Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program

Important Announcement

OYAP provides students with a head start in skilled occupations!

What is OYAP?

The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program enables students to learn a skilled trade while completing the requirements for their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (O.S.S.D.). By participating in this program, high school students get a head start on their desired apprenticeship. The partnership involves a student who wants to learn a skilled trade, the school cooperative education teacher who arranges and monitors the placement, an employer who provides the training and the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities which administers and regulates the program. OYAP integrates in-school learning through Technology, Math, Science and English courses with practical experience obtained through Cooperative Education placements.

From traditional trades such as:

Electrician Plumber Welder Hairstylist Auto Service Technician

To non-traditional trades such as:

Gemsetter/Goldsmith Hardware-Information Technology Support Analyst Network-Information Technology Support Analyst Network Cabling Specialist Optics Technician (Lens and Prism Maker)

Interested?
Talk with a co-op teacher or a guidance counsellor.

Please note that in order to apply students must:
Be 16 years of age
Have successfully completed 16 credits (ie. grade 10).

It is important for students to understand that under this program there is no guarantee that employers will agree to accept students as apprentices. Students must develop a positive working relationship with employers before they would be willing to accept students as apprentices.
