St. Philip Catholic School is located in the town of Petrolia, in the County of Lambton. We are a partner school for St. Patrick's Catholic High School located in the city of Sarnia. Our school is next to St. Philip Church and we enjoy a strong and supportive partnership with our St. Philip Parish
St. Philip Catholic School Council is made up of a group of dedicated and interested parents who work to enhance the education of all of the children in our school community. Many committees of this council work on projects that assist in curriculum enhancement through assisting teachers with activities and fundraising for learning materials and support of school initiatives.
The hard working staff at St. Philip Catholic School is always friendly and willing to serve. The staff model and teach acceptance and tolerance of one another, commitment to the Catholic faith and set high academic standards for our children. The staff models 21st century learning utilizing Chromebooks, BYOD (Bring Your Own Device), and integrating Michael Fullan’s New Pedagogies for Deep Learning project.
The population of 205 students come from families who most live in the town of Petrolia with small numbers who are bused in from Oil Springs, and Marthaville. Only 2 of our families farm as their way of life. Most of the kids come to school with their “backpacks” partially filled. Statistic Canada 2011 reported The Town of Petrolia had an average income of $27,000/person, 88% were married,32% live in single family dwellings, only 25% have post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree, and 95% report English as the mother tongue. The manufacturing sector was the largest industry at 18%.
